The meeting opened with toasts to Queen/country and RI, Four Way Test
11 members (2 on Zoom) and 1 guest met today.
 
The speaker for today was not available, so we had a social time:
Slice of Chicago Pizza; what is your favourite pizza?
Barb- Sy’s Aylmer
Malcolm- wood fired Pizza “Bee Sting” Elgin Harvest sourdough on Sunset Drive at old board of education
Nancy- her own with Italian sausage, spinach and parmesan cream
Bill- purchased basic pizza with own toppings (lots)
Gerry- Hawaiian but cannot find here, found in Ottawa and Florida
Mark- Roxbury’s London, with satellite franchise in Chatham
Cindy- Fat Ginny’s Blenheim
Ron- Pineapple (something about 55 years)
Trudy- Canadian
Trish- keeps anchovies on hand for either homemade or store bought pizza
Stew- any pizza Trish makes

Stew announced that the UN Refugee committee reported today there are 100 million refugees, doubled in less than 10 years.
 
Gerry spoke of the Chamber of Commerce “After 5”meeting at Port Stanley theatre early this evening.
 
50/50 was won by President Barbara
 
Happy Finns
Maggie- Thanks to God for safe and spectacular road trip across US.
Bill – Happy days during their 30-day trip; Barbara’s service as President this year and for an upcoming 2nd year.
Mark- we got by without speaker (Barb had an activity for us)
Barb- All 3 children home at one time for visit; family wedding
Gerry- Barbs first year as President, will be driven to Blue Jays game playing Yankees by sons for Father’s Day
Ron- no birthdays this time, 65th anniversary this summer
Nancy- all roses are blooming; met Jennifer Babcock at Home Show and she invited club for meeting at Royal Oak Retirement
Trudy- Home Show 50/50 winner got $225.50, Interactors went to Palisades, Nick’s brother in London not well, She received the Queen’s Jubilee award!
Malcolm- Trudy’s cookies were not at Home Show but Jennifer Babcock had cookies.
8Jun22 David Knoppert-Solar Cooking 3rd world
President Barbara opened the meeting with Oh Canada, toasts to Queen and Country and Rotary International and the 4-Way Test. Several members and a guest attended (some via Zoom)

The speaker was David Knoppert from the Rotary Club of Hyde Park on the topic of Solar Cookers for developing countries in Africa. David has received a meritorious award from RI.

https://cleancooking.org/sector-directory/sunbuckets-inc/ refers to the leading edge technology for near net zero cooking. Smart phones can also be charged and light produced by this system. David is involved with this project in Haiti.
750 million open fires are used for cooking world-wide. These fires lead to breathing issues for the women who do the cooking and for children; and also to gender violence. Editorial comment: I like camping and I know how polluting and unhealthy campfires are. Please see the slide show by David to understand how our club can support financially through District and Global Grants.
Q&A: Malcom- life cycle? 10 years.
Barbara- Safety? Use same practices as with anything hot. Charge time is 4 hours.
Trish- Does system require a special pot? Yes, it is required and is provided with the system.

Proceeds from the 50/50 draw at the Home Show was $250.
 
Horton market last week was not busy but our volunteers collected $119 for STEGH. The market organizers want us to oversee a children’s colouring station, but we would need to establish a “Plan to Protect” system first.
 
Catharine reported on the “Tour” fundraiser and the many sponsors that are behind it.
 
Pat will send $800 to the YMCA Strong Kids children’s camp. That will use up all of the budget allocated for the YMCA this year.
 
Mark requested that the board investigate a different meeting location.
 
Invoices for next years membership dues have been sent out by President Barbara; to be a member, dues are payable by 30Jun22. Congratulations to Barbara for this efficient invoicing system using ClubRunner.
 
Sonja Glass District 6330 District Governor Nominee sent an email outlining Proposed 2022-2023 District 6330 Policies and Procedures to be discussed at District 6330 Annual Business Meeting. Discussion is about a District Policy regarding members and their interaction with youth and a District Crisis Management Plan.
 
District Governor Erin has completed Phd courses.
