Club Assembly 2May18

It's good to have Gerald with us!

Interactors Donated $1000 to the Woman's shelter and presented Harris Bears
CLUB ASSEMBLY 2May18

The meeting was opened by President Trish at 12:15. To reflect the wishes of the members the opening was changed to begin with our usual toasts, plus a toast to Trudy and the Interactors for all the great work they have accomplished this year, This was followed by Malcolm asking us to pause for a Moment of Reflection. Trish introduced our guests – Sue story and husband Rick and Maggie Horn.

Trish reviewed the upcoming schedule for club meetings and events and then opened the next part of the meeting for reports and more detailed updates.

Dave Moffatt reminded members about the club Tree planting outing set for next week, May 9, at 4:00pm.  We will not have a meeting at noon. Instead we will gather at the Kettle Creek Conservation Area, Highbury Ave, All members are encouraged to be at KCCA, shovel or spade in hand.

Jennifer Babcock spoke about the “Strong Kids” program that we are supporting at the YWCA. This is a special program to encourage young people to learn and adopt a healthy lifestyle using “Y” programs and in addition offers opportunities for the children to improve literacy skills.

Trudy Kanellis spoke about all the activities that have been done or are soon to happen with Interactor members.
6 of the members visited the Women's Shelter to deliver Rotary bears and an Interact cheque for $1000.00. Some of the members will be helping with the Rotary Tree plating event on May 9.
For their next meeting the members will spend an hour in the STEGH parking areas, paying the parking costs for hospital visitors as they leave. It will be an opportunity to distribute some Interact flyers and let people know about the group and some of their events and achievements.
The club made a video that was sent as part of a global Interact Video competition. Our club received a rating placing them among the top 25% of all the submissions. Well done!
On June 3, 7:00pm the Interactors will welcome Don Crocker, retired Fire Chief of Central Elgin and father of Chris Crocker, an Interact member in our early years. Don is an avid bee-keeper and will be speaking to the Interactors about bees and how to maintain hives and harvest honey. If any Rotarians would like to attend we are all welcome.
6 of the Interactors will be attending District Conference on Saturday, May 5.

Other events that Trudy arranges are
  1. Adventures In Citizen, a week in Ottawa, hosted by Ottawa Rotarians, with one local student attending;
  2. Seminar For Tomorrow's Leaders, to be held at UWO, from Friday June 11 to Sunday afternoon, June 13, with two of our members attending.

Nancy Lovelock spoke about International Service. All the funds that were allotted in the budget have been put to use. One of the last projects funded was toward an African initiative, a back-to-school project for putting and keeping children in school.

Ron Somerville spoke briefly about club service. Most of the activities that fall under that title are being done by many of our members and are reported regularly to the club.
He reminded the members that our annual Change-of-Officers dinner will be held a little earlier than usual, June 20. Dinner on the lawn, catered by the Wayside Dining Lounge will once again be hosted by Brenda and Mike Merrifield, at their home on Fairview Ave. We will gather at 5:30, with dinner served at 6:00.

Stew spoke about how to find all club information on ClubRunner, and in the club calendar. He works very hard to keep the data current and accurate
Gerard Janssen advised the members that the calendar is coloured coded to indicate different types of data and events, etc, and it can be downloaded for transfer to our own digital calendars.
